Soprano (Cio-Cio San)

artist Miwako Isano performs the title role of Madama Butterfly in Golden Gate Opera's 2010 production at Marin Center. She is cast as the Sandman in GGO's upcoming Hansel and Gretel, and in fall 2009, performed the role of the Sandman in GGO's Hansel and Gretel Outreach to Schools Program. After initial studies in Italy, from 1986-88, Ms. Isano gave solo recitals in Japan and San Francisco, and performed in operas in England and San Francisco as Mimi in  La Boheme, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Iris in Semele.

The soprano was featured soloist in The Faure Requiem for the ceremony of The 60th Anniversary of the Atomic Bomb Victims in San Francisco in August 2005 and also in that year, she sang the premiere performance of the Five Chokas at the Asian Art Museum in December of 2005. In 2008 Ms. Isano performed the role of Lana in Sisters of Manzanar by composer Paul Stuart at the Fresno Art Museum and the Abbess in Puccini's Suor Angelica at Shaghoian Concert Hall in Fresno, California with California Opera Association. Roles in her repertoire also include Liu in Turandot, Suzel in L'amico Fritz, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana and Desdemona in Otello.

Miwako Isano received her Bachelor of Music from Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku (Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music Vocal Music Course, specializing in Opera) and Master of Music and Postgraduate Degree from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
